Dover waterfront regeneration

Thanet Crane Hire working on a variety of projects on Dover waterfront.

We are extremely pleased to be involved in the  transformation of the Dover waterfront.

Working on behalf of different contractors, we are providing cranes and crane assisted transport solutions for a number of separate projects. This work is all part of the £250m Dover Western Docks Revival (DWDR) programme.

We recently deployed a 220 tonne crane with full ballast and specialist lifting slings to relocate a section of walkway. The task was to move the walkway a short distance to its new home as part of a boat hoist in Northampton Quay in the Western Docks. We used an extendable rear-steer trailer to successfully negotiate the short, but challenging, journey. Later we returned to site with our PM50 lorry mounted crane, which is capable of lifting 2.75 tonnes at 14.5m reach. With its 12.5 tonne payload, this lorry was ideal for moving equipment required for the new boat hoist location.

The impressive DWDR project has included relocation and development of the port’s cargo business. There is a new cargo terminal and distribution centre in the Western Docks which has created space in the Eastern Docks for increased ferry traffic. In addition, there is new marina pier and major improvements to the promenade area along the seafront. The transformation of the waterfront is part of the wider regeneration of Dover town centre.

We are very pleased that the Port of Dover are following their commitment to use locally based companies whenever possible and to be involved in this prestigious project.
