Infrastructure installation in central London

Careful planning key to successful electricity upgrade in Leicester Square.

Leicester Square in London’s theatreland is famous for entertainment and red-carpet glamour.

But did you know that transformers hidden beneath the iconic square supply electricity to the local area?

Our team recently installed steelwork for Clancy Docwra and UK Power Networks. These are the joint venture partners managing the electrical upgrade.

Using a compact Liebherr LTM 1070 to negotiate the very limited working space,  we lifted four 5.2 tonne beams into position.  We worked closely with Clancy Docwra to safely access the site across the busy pedestrianised square and ensure adequate support beneath the crane outriggers.

There were a number of protected London Plane trees in the lifting zone. These iconic trees are a famous part of the London landscape and we needed to ensure that no harm came to them. A tree specialist from Westminster Council was on site to monitor the trees and we are very pleased to say that no damage occurred.
